Have No Fear, For I am with You.

Last Saturday when I met up with Abouna to discuss my walk with God, he mentioned the three types of people who attend church on Sunday.

* First is the one who comes out of obligation/ they are forced to. Most of the time these are children who are forced to digest religion. Often times these children will grow away from the church at some point and a selected few will return as adults when they get married and have children of their own.

* Second is the one who goes to church just because this is what they are trained to do and it is something to do on Sunday. These are usually the adults who go to church services the last 30 min and can be found constantly on the phones. They do not feel God because they don't invite the Holy Spirit into their lives other than Sunday.

* Third is the one who is vigilant and gives each day to God so long services on Sunday is not considered a hassle but a necessity.

In summary, he was trying to tell me that just because you're in church doesn't mean you are religious. This, however, prompt me to think about my you, my readers.

I have no idea who are other than the fact that you're an android or iphone user. But you are a large group. Some of you are just curious about my life aka the stalker of the bunch while I'm pretty sure the majority are spiritual/ religious but frighten to allow yourself to be seen. This entry is for you.

In the Bible, "have NO FEAR" is repeatedly stated over and over with much repetition not because God thinks we're dumb but due to the fact that we forget. And in those moments of doubt we succumb to bad decisions or indecision.

Yes, doing nothing is just as bad as making dumb choices. Choosing to be a wallflower makes you just as bad. I should know because that encompasses a majority of my 20's until a few of my friends told me 'you have soo much potential.' The bullheadedness in me got upset and decided to do something, so that was when I started going for great strides in my spiritual life.

Bad tangent. Time to go back to my train of thought. (I'm soo medicated right now. Christina got me sick yesterday.)

The "have no fear, for I am with you" is for you, my reader. God wants so much to be a part of your lives. I know its scary to step into a church or started to read a book on religion, but I encourage you to try. Even if its just a worship song. Here: try this. It just takes one seed of faith/ spirituality to move mountains.

I am very aware that a lot of my peers/ people in society don't like religion on any level. It is deemed archaic and irrational. But I can tell you that as a student of science, everything I studied leads me to think that there is more. Based on probability alone, life is nearly impossible to fathom, therefore; there must be more to explain our existence. And the more is God. (In case you don't know. I have a chemistry background from UC, Santa Cruz and years in biotech research.)

When I really started my journey with God two years ago, it was because I was dating a Jewish Redhead. Lol. I KNOW! Don't even start. Even though he turned out to be a dirtbag beyond words. It lead me to go to the Barnes and Noble on Ventura Boulevard and buying a book titled "Judaism for Dummies." My curiosity was met in those pages as I began to pray to God on a daily basis.

It was God's Love which saved me and took me away to Texas so that I may find him. I would never imagine going through the process of becoming Coptic Orthodox two years later, but things happen when you invite God into your life.

Well that is enough of me on a soap box. Next entry will be on fasting and how I must do it at some point during this holiday season.

Many Blessings.
Linda
