Is there room for God?
Just thought I would take a break from my history lesson and write a more personal entry on being a Christian and being in my 20's...well late 20's.
First off, I have to say that there aren't many voicing Christians in this age group. More specifically, I mean young Christians thirsting for God beyond attending Sunday Service. (To be honest, some of them that do voice...I want to give them a high five in the face with a chair. lol.)
At this point in our lives, many of my peers are still in the process of establishing themselves in their careers and finding their significant others. The partying till 3 in the morning and going to work the next day hungover has pretty much died out, though there are still a selected few. ;) We are no longer in dire search for social acceptance in all aspects of our lives; we have concluded that this is us. You take it or you leave it.
You would think that this moment in our lives would be most opportune to search for the divine/ the being that exist beyond our computers and smartphones; however, it does not. In our society of Facebook (which is slowly dying out because great grandma is now posting inappropriate update statuses), Instagram, Snapchat, and even blogging; our status quo is entirely based on how popular you are instead of the relations you create beyond the algorithms.
We have slowly become a society that George Orwell and Aldous Huxley were in fear of. One that does not think independently or explore the beyond.
I strongly believe that in order to truly feel the presence of God; we must step into the uncomfortable because that is where faith and character is built. The Bible says in James 1:3 'because you know the testing of your faith produces perseverance.' It is not to say that we wont get hurt or discouraged but the experience alone is breathtaking and life giving. It is said that in the Bible, 'do not be afraid' is written 365 times. Each one for each day of the year. So I ask "Why do you fear failure/ vulnerability?" God has your back!
If this journey takes you half way across the world or is as simple as trusting another human with your heart; go. There will be many who oppose your new found faith/ journey and will test you. Take a chance. Matthew 13: 16 - 17 says 'But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.'
From my own experiences; a lot of my walk has been under great scrutiny ( I've cut out A LOT of people from my life) from my peers because religious is synonymous to being narrow minded, backward thinking, anti-feminist and the list goes on. Often times the opposition will push their non-religious views onto you but don't reciprocate with anger instead show them compassion and love. John 15: 12 'This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.' All things work out as they should and at the end of our days we all answer to something/ someone.
So go run and explore. Only then will God have space in this modern age.
Thanks for reading my rant. I will go back to the history lesson later this week.
Many Blessings.
Linda
